The Grotto

Beneath the floors of the Ilvermorny main building is the extensive series of tunnels and rooms collectively known as the Grotto. With a different type of stonework than the floors and towers above, the Grotto is often thought to predate the school itself.

A number of classrooms are within the Grotto itself, including the Charms class of Professor Seneb, connected directly to a rather lavishly decorated office that looks almost straight from Ancient Egypt.

At the foot of one of the smaller stairways leading directly to the Great Hall above, a small stone pool has been constructed with a stony face-shaped fountain watching over those who pass by. A common story among students is that, if the proper offerings are left in the pool at the proper time of day, the face will come to life and truthfully answer any one question about the questioner's future with perfect accuracy. That often leads to the pool being filled with various bric-a-brac, all offerings left by students trying to get their questions answered (though you'd be hard pressed to find anyone admitting to having the slightest belief in such a fantastical story).
