Shrieking skulls will shock your soul!
First comes the feast - all sorts of foods from across the continent, specialty dishes for this time of year featuring a variety of seasonal gourds and vegetables. Mixed throughout the food are little edible poppers that explode with a small snap when bitten in to, giving a harmless surprise to the unfortunate student. The mood in the hall is jovial. Small prank spells fly from student to student, the worst pulled aside by teachers for a brief reprimand.
The meal over, the tables are pushed to the sides where they become home to treats and drinks for the evening as the room darkens and music begins. It's a variety of music from wailing wizards and witches throughout the ages though it seems like everyone's favourite No-Maj teacher has brought an iPhone full of modern pop songs from the no-maj world to mix in.
Throughout the event, teachers wade through crowds in their own costumes. The occasional glance of the headmaster is caught as he seems to appear randomly throughout the evening, chattering with students and professors alike before moving on, his loud, jovial laughter sometimes drowning out almost all other noise.
"Have fun!" he tells the students he talks to. "This is a true night to enjoy!"
OOC Mechanics: For the most part, the Halloween Spooktackular is a roleplay thread. Outside of mechanics listed below, you're free to roleplay as you wish (though we might occasionally drop in small mini-events in the thread that will be linked back up here for you to participate in). It's time to have fun, after all!
Your date, though? That's the important part as far as the rest of the school is concerned - and your Popularity depends on it. For each point of Popularity your date is below you, you have +1 Setback dice for all Popularity rolls from this moment until Holiday Break. For each point of Popularity your date is above you, you have +1 Boost dice for all Popularity rolls from this moment until Holiday Break.
Going stag? Well, you'll need to look cool doing it - peer pressure is a pain. Roll a Cool (Presence) check with a number of difficulty dice equal to your own Popularity; the more Popular you are, the more is expected of you socially (the cycle of high school life can be cruel). On a success, you're good - for you, not bringing a date is the cool thing. On a failure, though, other students start to talk - you gain +1 Setback dice for all Popularity rolls from this moment until Holiday Break. Each Advantage on the final roll total can be converted to 1 Success, and each Threat on the final roll total will cause 1 Strain; on a Triumph, you automatically succeed (but still apply any Threats on the final roll to Strain).
Deciding to skip out entirely? Your absence might be noted and people might start to talk. If you still want to try, drop us a note in your personal forum and we'll handle your rolls.
