[Day Three, Mid-Term] I Have No Idea What I'm Doing

I Have No Idea What I'm Doing...
... and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.

This one? This isn't your best class. Whether the professor doesn't like you or you just don't get the subject matter, you're barely dragging along with this one. This might go poorly for you - or you might just manage to surprise yourself!

OOC Mechanics:
What Class is This, Anyways?
Select your lowest skill from the following (in case of a tie, you may select):
  • any Classroom skill
  • Broomsmanship
  • Curses
  • Countercurse
  • Jinx & Hexes
  • Healing
  • Muggle Studies
How Do You Want to Do This?
Pick a Characteristic; make an explanation for how this characteristic is working with the selected skill. For example, perhaps you use Agility for your Countercurse because you've become extremely fast at casting them or perhaps you use Cunning because you're smart enough to know when you use them.

Gonna Build a Dice Pool!
Your dice pool for this event will be constructed using your selected Characteristic and Skill; it will be rolled against a Daunting difficulty, upgraded twice. You may spend a Story Point to remove one difficulty upgrade.

Peanut Butter Study Time!
So, you've been studying, right? It's time for that to pay off. Across all your Mid-Terms, you have access to 6 Study Points. You may spend a Study Point to add a Boost dice to this dice pool.

Yeah, This is Big Brain Time!
Not everyone relies on studying though. Sometimes, you just sort of... know. Across all your Mid-Terms, you have access to Knowledge Points equal to your Intellect. You may spend an Intellect Point to upgrade a die in this dice pool.

... and Watch This!
Roll your dice pool. If you receive even a single Success, you pass - congratulations! Additional symbols may be spent as such:
  • Advantage: You may spend 1 Advantage to gain 10 House Points for your House. For each Advantage spent, recover one Strain.
  • Triumph: You may refund one Study Point OR one Knowledge Point spent on this roll. Alternatively, you may spend the Triumph as an Advantage.
  • Threat: The GM will spend 1 Adantage and your character will lose 10 House Points for your House. For each Threat spent, suffer one Strain.
  • Despair: The GM will spend 1 Despair to cancel any up to three Advantages and cause three Strain to the character. Alternatively, they may spend them as a Threat.

The hardest midterm. Layla knew her knowledge of Jinxes was not as high as perhaps it should be; she never did great in Defense of the Dark Arts class back in Hogwarts due to being concerned about hurting someone. Jinxes were nasty spells. Now though, she was less concerned; if she'd been a bit braver back then perhaps she could have changed the future...

She shook her head, trying to focus herself. Now was not the time to get upset! She took a deep breath, and stepped forward for her test. Strengthening her will, which had carried her through the tests so far.

"Flipendo."

A swish of her wand...and the spell was cast. She had passed, however the poor student that was thrown back was not so lucky. It was perhaps a little much.

"Oops, sorry."

Still, she passed! With flying students and flying colours.

D3 Mid-term Lowest skill test. Choosing Jinxes and Hexes, using Willpower. Using 2 intellect points to upgrade twice, and 4 study points for 4 boost dice: 2eP+2eA+4eB+2eD+2eC 3 successes, 1 threat

Grace was nervous. Really nervous. Professor Derwent required an oral presentation for the mid-term on one of the essay subjects, and Grace settled on one....cat videos.

"And that is how, through the symbolism of Grumpy Cat, cats have retaken their role as favored pets and divine gifts, as it was in the times of the Pharaohs. And I am sorry professor, but no, you cannot haz a cheeseburger." She finished confidently...at least her delivery was on point, even if some of her content was a bit muddled, but in the end, it was a good effort and she was beaming with pride as she finished.

OOC:
D3 Hard Midterm, No-maj studies/Presence, presentation, 2 knowledge points to upgrade 2 study points for boost: 2eP+2eB+2eA+2eD+2eC 4 successes

by Fitz Crowinshield
There was no reason for Fitz to be struggling in Herbology. He was one of the best in the class in Potionsmaking, and half of the ingredients that he would need to use came from that class. There was every expectation that it was something that he should excel at.

Except he just plain didn't want to bother. As he put it, "The chef doesn't need to know how the farmer grows the potato, he just needs to know what to do with it."

The problem was that Professor Teiwes knew it. And, being Head of House, she was in prime position to remind (read, constantly nag) Fitz about how he could be excelling.

So, there really was only one way around it in Fitz's mind. He would have to (ugh!) study. And so, armed with the motivations of spite and desperately wanting to be left alone on the subject, Fitz pours himself into researching proper fertilizers, how to repot vines while they try to strangle you, and Why You Shouldn't Burn Down the Greenhouse in Frustration.

Teiwes seems to have a tricky one for him, and is watching him like a hawk while he works.

I have no idea what I am doing-Herbology (Intellect/standard skill usage), 3 knowledge points, 4 study points spent-Daunting with 2 upgrades: 3eP+1eA+4eB+2eC+2eD 4 successes, 1 advantage
ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

"There we are Mr. Crowinshield, I know you could do it."

Fitz offers a weak smile and seems to limp away, eager that this is done.

(Pass, plus 10 points for Thunderbird)

Raul wasn't a fan of Curses. Not with the history of how they were applied. The cruelties inflicted upon no-maj and magic user alike. So he had devoted time studying. Putting forth his natural talents of being a bookworm, and beseeching a bit of luck.

He performed satisfactorily.

Outcome: Passed, +20 House Points to Wampus

D3 - MidTerm - I Have No Idea What I'm Doing (Intellect 3, Curses 0, Story Point for Bookworm Ability, 4 study points +4eB, 3 Knowledge Points to upgrade 3 times, Daunting, Upgraded Twice): 4eP+1eA+4eB+2eC+2eD 2 successes, 2 advantage

"So, the internet is a series of tubes. Words and images are sent through these tubes to be displayed on monitors. The monitors used to be made of tubes, too, but now they are flat. This seems to have confused some users of the internet, who now think other round things are flat, including the world."

Arlington didn't really understand much of what he had researched the night before. He'd pieced his answer together from grandpa's stories, articles from the New York Ghost and a conversation with a No-Maj about something called a meme. At the least, he provided enough information to seem knowledgeable.

by Xanthe Vanderwyck
Lots of people thought Xanthe was a practicioner of the Dark Arts; truth was that she was at best, mildly proficient in the subject, and not much for actually *casting* them on others. Still, some curses *could* be applied for good. At least the minor ones, which were even taught in Defense Against the Dark Arts classes around the world. For said class, Xanthe showcased her ability to cast and control such minor curses, and rattled off a dazzling list of uses, effects, conditions, exceptions, and so on and so on; a list so long and filled with complex information that it took all of her focus to recall the details and facts...

...which she somehow managed to do, to achieve the coveted 'passing grade'.

D3 Lowest; Curses / Willpower, 2 knowledge points for upgrades, 4 study points for boosts: 3eP+4eB+2eC+2eD 3 successes

There'd been an accident, cause of course there was. Spilled drink, or something.. maybe? Cian wasn't really totally sure because while he may have caused the accident with his flying... he did pass his test. So, really, was it truly his fault? Being docked points for his house... made it quite apparent that it was, indeed, his fault.

Still, he passed. So, sucks for them. Returning the broom he brushed his hand through his hair, smirked, and proceeded to continue with his planning for the rest of the day.

Day 3, Midterms | No Idea What I'm Doing: Broomanship + Agility, 3 Study Points, 2 Knowledge Points: 2eP+3eB+2eC+2eD 2 successes, 2 threat

Ondine tried to will some major vision that would tear down the veils of future and past... but all she could think of was one dark-haired individual. It would be embarrassing if it wasn't healthy for the age. Once again a proof that trying too hard was the wrong approach. The Thunderbirds had no reason to be proud of her though.

Mid-Term. Divination Willpower - So random! I don't know what's happening. 1 Intellect, 1 Story, 3 Study.: 3eP+2eD+2eC+3eB 1 failure, 2 threat

Aww hell

This one was to be rough as Sylvain disliked the offensive use of magic against people...they were rarely pleasant. Still, over the last few days Sylvain tried to come up with way to use a spell with softer effects but still usefull in combat.

And weed would be needed for that.

Before the teacher could stop him from lighting the spiff, or was aware of what he was doing, Sylvain already had a few good puffs and began his spell.

Holding the smoke in, he brought the tip of his wand to his lips and incanted his spell as he exhaled the cloud.

''Nebula''

The wand seemed to catch nearly all of the vapor in a neat swirl along it's haft. Smiling, Sylvain flinged the smoke snake at the target, having it burst into a large ball in contact and giving the target one hell of a buzz.

Sadly he could not experience it himself as a result of the spell.

I have no Idea of what I am doing: Jixes and Hexes+cunning(standard), 2 brain and 3 study points: 2eA+2eP+2eD+2eC+3eB 5 successes, 2 advantage

Jay gulped he felt better after his broomanship mid term even if there had been a little mix up. But he had been dreading his jinxes mid term all day, but he had hit those books hard and studied his ass off for this test.

When it was his turn Jay used his agility and dexterity to deftly apply the wand motions he had studied and though it was a difficult test he passed with flying colors and the teacher awarded Wampus 20 house points for his efforts. He breathed a deep sigh of relief and cracked a smile for the first time today.

Jinxes/agility daunting w/ 2 upgrades. Spend sp to downgrade spend 4 study points for 4 boosts and 2 smart points for 2 upgrades: 2eP+2eA+4eB+1eC+3eD 2 successes, 2 advantage

Muggle Studies. Known to Mischa as the Terror that Lurks in the Outside . . .

He really wasn't good at this so he'd gotten the book on how an Automated Teller Machine worked and read it cover to cover four times the night before. Then he'd quickly written up his presentation, slightly hampered by having to try to understand nomaj money as well, but he'd managed it.

Now he presented a talk on true Nomaj 'magic' and how they got money, made of paper a bit like parchment but worse, out of holes in the wall in exchange for . . . NOTHING.

Well they had to remember numbers or something, but basically nothing! (The Nomaj Banking system had been in another book, luckily he'd read that as well.)

After that had settled in he then explained how they got the money in the hole in the first place.

And all this . . . still with sparkly pink hair. That potions failure had really done a number on him.

I have no idea what I'm doing Muggle Studies/Presence Spending 2 Study Points for boosts and 1 Study Point for downgrade.: 4eA+2eB+3eD+1eC 4 successes, 1 advantage

Story Point for Downgrade, not Study.

Still Success and 10 points for Wampus.
